Went up about 1000 meters up and saw some people paragliding. The wind wasn’t strong enough that day to fly back up but got a nice comp down here.

Noo! Dont Jump!

Oh This is the view from the roof of the apt

Got some supplies to for my project. Not saying what it is but hopefully it’ll work well. Hopefully you’ll see it in stores in the near future :-D

hmm… upgrades…

with one comment

okay a matrix reference doesn’t really work for this post but it was an upgrade :-D . Was making a helmet for my nephew since he liked Captain Rex from Star Wars. Hes been watching the clone wars CG series lately and has been buying the toys and oogling at the star wars nerf blaster. So yea…

Made this at first since he said “uncle uncle can you make me a captain rex helmet?!?” me “sure thing” thinking i’d stop at just making it simple and it’ll be finish in an hour. this is what i made…

Yea… so it isn’t a work of art.  Thought a cut and paste would work for the cheek area. I got lazy with the dome too, was in a rush to get it done before he left so made it with a swirl pattern… Didn’t turn out to good. SOoooooooooo what’s a loving uncle to do? He puts his cyborg heart into it that’s what! (-_-);;

So… yea… it has a overall cone shape. Cut the bristol paper and creased it so it has a bevel. Then put a coat of gesso and gave it a glossy finish using… dare i say it? elmers glue… AHHHHHH (well it worked). :-D he has been walking around town with it lately loL. All that’s missing is the antenna piece. and umm… I guess the rest of the suit. loL. I’ll see if my sister is willing to have a mini Captain Rex running around the house (yea I know it’s not halloween yet.)

I love these things I find in my old hard drives!!! loL anyways…

Magic Cards! They got some good illustrations on those 2″ by 2″ canvases.  We had an assignment in our 2nd year of illustration and it was to create a battle card for “Magic the Gathering”. So we did our research and figured out which creatures we’d like to illustrate and if it made sense. Anyways I picked the elementals and of course if I got one giant elemental, I must have another and so here’s my elemental at their element. as in as they duke it out… as in…nvm. here’s a little pre production work.

"comp study 1"

"comp study 1"

"comp study 2"

"comp study 2"

Scupture (shadow/composition study)
30 minutes-1 hour

As you can see the elementals aren’t really lacking in shapes. Had my sketch and composed it but when I got to the actual underpainting, perspective, size and angle etc weren’t really easy to put down. So made myself a little model. Gotta love Roma Plastilina. Hmm… I wonder if they dried by now… Anyways So here’s the end product.

"Elementals in Battle"

"Elementals in Battle"

Traditional (Acrylic)
Time: maybe working 8 hours? with 2 critiques?

If shrunk it’d look like this. Of course not at the dpi of the computer monitor

"Elementals in Battle"

"Elementals in Battle"

Hmmm… I should have really worked on the clouds a lot more :-/

Good times, good times. loL

Traditional

Some of my friends said to post up some traditional work. I would love to continue doing traditional but who knows how the future is. Very bright I hope. Anyways here’s me taking a swing at traditional mediums.

"Steel Press"

"Steel Press"

Traditional (Oil on Masonite with Cradle)
Time: 1 semester (2nd semester of oil Painting)

"Model Painting 02"

"Model Painting 02"

Traditional (Oil on MDF Board )
Time: 16 hours over 4 weeks 3 hour sessions.

Yes these two are polar opposites. one’s a cold machine, while the other’s a warm human(didn’t realize it till i went to do the tags. loL) anyways… Oil’s definitely fun and will most likely be continuing it. Hope you do too… if you paint in oil.

Temple in the Canyon

"The Hidden Temple"

"The Hidden Temple"

Digital (Photoshop)
A week and a half

Okay it’s a hidden temple but how hidden can it be since it’s jutting out of the canyon wall. Hidden temple… oh that’s a nick show right? Hmmm Guess I should change the name of it when I can.

Redesigned the temple structure about 7 times. Was originally a city on a cliff then clay houses then some sort of futuristic edifice that seemed to look a lot of random lego blocks stacked on top of each other… needless to say those ideas didn’t work too well. And now it’s like this. Took inspiration Buddhist temples in tibet and the one in upstate NY. Now that i look at it I should probably add some vegetation. I’ll get to that later. Time to start a new project.

"Metro Rocketeer"

Here’s a project given to us for one of our classes. It’s like a what if scenario. What if MTA gave us the subway poster to do. it was i think 28″ by 40″. That took a toll on the mac loL.

Digital Painting (Photoshop)
I think we were given about 4 weeks to do it. Actual work time
was probably 20 something hours. I got no clue.

Lulu!

leave a comment »

Book illustration was fun! One of my favorite classes during the college years. For this project we were given 5 books to pick from. I picked “Hello Lulu” By Caroline Uff. It’s about a girl named Lulu who shows you around the house and introduces you to her family. So it was probably aimed towards 3-5 year olds. So what better way to reinvent it than to add killer robots and flesh eating creatures!!! Anyways we illustrated the 32 pages in b/w and selected two spreads to finish as a final, and here are my finishes.
"Walking the Dog"

"Walking the Dog"

Watercolor & Ink
20 hours (was given 3-4 weeks to finish though)

"Reunion"

"Reunion"

Watercolor & Ink
25 hours? (was given 3-4 weeks to finish though)

Not sure of the amount of time it took to finish. These were done last year. They’re probably around the ballpark range of 20-30 hours. I may be way off.
